From Photographer to Being the Bride

As a wedding photographer, I’ve spent years capturing love stories. Documenting the in-between moments, the quiet emotions, the celebrations. But this time, I got to live it. Being on the other side of the lens was both surreal and deeply meaningful, knowing my incredible team was capturing our day the same way I would for my couples. I always remind my brides to pause, breathe, and take it all in. This time, I had to remind myself.

My husband and I met as worship leaders, so standing there on our wedding day, leading worship together, singing The Blessing and Gratitude, was one of the most special moments of our lives. After everything we had walked through as a couple, it felt like a full-circle moment. A chance to honour God for His faithfulness in our journey.

Our road to this day looked a little different than most. Earlier in the year, we had a beautiful, intimate micro wedding...just us, a handful of loved ones, and a quiet moment to say our vows. It was perfect in its own way, but we always knew we wanted to celebrate with everyone. This was that day. Our wedding, gender reveal, and a huge celebration all in one!

The Venue: A Dreamy Greenhouse Setting with All the Essentials

As both a bride and a photographer, choosing the right venue was a big deal. I wanted something in the GTA that felt open, bright, and romantic..like a tented wedding but with the comforts I knew I’d need at seven months pregnant (because let’s be real, outdoor washrooms were not an option). The Greenhouse at Royal Ambassador in Caledon was everything I had envisioned. With its floor-to-ceiling windows, lush greenery, and stunning waterfront views, it gave us that airy, outdoor feel without any of the hassles. The AC was a lifesaver on a warm late-summer day, and the early fall colours starting to peek through made the perfect backdrop.

The Dress That Was Meant to Be

And then, there was the dress. I had always dreamed of wearing something with romantic, puffy off-the-shoulder sleeves, and when I ordered my gown, I somehow "accidentally" clicked “blush pink” instead of ivory. Turns out, it was the best mistake I could have made. Because if you know me, you know I love blush pink. Walking down the aisle in that dress, seven months pregnant and feeling like a princess, was everything I had hoped for.

A Day Filled With Meaning & Unscripted Moments

The ceremony was emotional in the best way. The sun peeked through the clouds, casting the perfect soft light as we exchanged vows we had written ourselves. Vows that reflected not just our love, but our faith, our journey, and everything we had been through together.

And then, golden hour. As a photographer, I always tell my couples to step away for sunset portraits, and now I got to experience it for myself. The warm glow, the way the fall colours reflected off the water, the quiet moment to just be with each other. It really is my favourite time of the day to shoot couples!

A Reception That Felt Like Us

From the grand entrance with our families to our first dance to At Last, the reception was absolutely joyful! We had a chaotic but hilarious photo dash, fun games for our guests (because why should only the wedding party have all the fun?), and a money dance where guests pinned bills on us while joining us on the dance floor. And of course, the biggest moment.....our gender reveal! Baby girl on the way!

A Wedding Created by the People Who Love Us

What made this day even more special was that so many of our vendors weren’t just vendors. They were family, friends, and people who have been part of our journey. From my photography team to our decorators, cake, hair and makeup artists, officiant, and even our MC, this wedding was built by the people who love us. It felt like more than just a celebration. It was a reminder of the community that has surrounded and supported us.

And my photography team? I couldn’t have asked for a better group to capture it all! Seeing our wedding through their eyes reminded me exactly why I do what I do. Because at the end of the day, weddings aren’t about perfect details. They’re about real, unscripted moments that turn into memories you’ll hold onto forever.
